I found this internship listing on www.internqueen.com on one of my daily internship hunts online. I applied for it through her website, then did a little research online. I researched the VH1 publicity department contacts and e-mailed them directly. I introduced myself and inquired about a possible internship. They responded to my e-mail within a few days and by the end of the week I had a phone interview scheduled with a Junior Publicist. She asked the usual questions, about my employment history, what skills I have related to the functions of the job, my availability and also about how and where I would be living in New York.
A week after the phone interview, I was contacted by a human resources coordinator and was offered the position.
My advice? Be persistent. If the opportunity doesn’t exist, create it. Don’t wait for anything to come to you, go out into the world and make it happen!

I just heard back from my internship coordinator (the Junior Publicist I was interviewed by) and have a tentative start date of either January 7 or 8, 2010. My internship will be full-time (9:30am-5:30pm), 5 days a week. I am a little nervous about working so much (since I will also have to find another part-time job to pay for living expenses since the internship is unpaid), but this is the opportunity of a lifetime and I definitely will not let a little extra hard work and eating Top Ramen noodles everyday get in my way! Watch out NYC! =)
