Debate: Who was on more drugs? (Grunge edition)

For a little fun, let me ask you, dear ones, this question that I myself have been debating today:

Who was more high during their MTV Unplugged special – Layne Staley of Alice In Chains or Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots?

Now, I’m not going to answer this myself in this blog.  Instead, I present the evidence for your viewing, and offer you the chance to vote and discuss.  I know this will be a close race, but someone must be crowned “he who consumed the most drugs” today. And as a bonus, we can revel in amazing music created by people with heavy sorrow – in spite of that burden, even.

I will say one thing:  some argue Layne was on methadone at this point;  I say given he didn’t want to do the show, he took something more to get by.

Contestant #1:  Layne Staley (he would be the blonde upfront)

Exhibit A:  Heaven Beside You

Exhibit B:  Would?

Exhibit C:  Nutshell

Contestant #2:  Scott Weiland (he who rocks in the chair upfront)

Exhibit A:   Plush

Exhibit B:  Big Empty

Exhibit C:  Sex Type Thing

Autograph

Autograph was an American Hard Rock Band led by lead singer Steve Plunkett.

The group was first formed in Los Angeles in 1983.

They are best known for their One-Hit Wonder, the 1984 song “Turn up the Radio” which peaked at #29 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.

That single, and one other single, “Blondes in Black Cars” charted in the top-40 of the Billboard Rock Charts, and that was all the chart success that the band would enjoy.

The band was active from 1983-1989, and from 2002-2005, but is now inactive.

They ended up recording 6 Studio Albums over the course of their career.

Vh-1 named “Turn up the Radio” as the 93rd Best Hard Rock Song of All-Time.

The song was featured in an episode of “Miami Vice“, and is also featured on the “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” video game.

Epic Win: The Original MTV VJs

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by C Wood, up to no good.

The hair, the clothes, the attitude – so awesome! Also: all still in style. Too bad MTV forgot about playing actual videos. These days a VJ would have to be 16 and pregnant to get on the air.

Thomas Dolby

Thomas Dolby is an English Singer, Musician, and Producer.

He is best known for his One-Hit Wonder, the 1982 hit “She Blinded Me With Science” which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.

The video for “She Blinded Me With Science” was a staple on MTV during the early 1980’s.

She song was featured in a “Treehouse of Horror” episode of “The Simpsons“.

He would chart Five songs into the Top-40 of the British Charts over his career, but had just the one hit here in the US.

Contrary to rumour, he is NOT the inventor of the Dolby Stereo Technology. Dolby’s name is actually Thomas Robertson. “Dolby” was a nickname given to him by classmates due to his obsession with Dolby Laboratories Cassette players.

He is a noted session musician, primarily on keyboards and synthesizers.

He played Keyboards on the 1983 Def Leppard album “Pyromania“.

He also played Synthesizer on two of Foreigner’s biggest hits, “Urgent” and “Waiting for a Girl Like You“.

He has produced records for a number of artists, including Joni Mitchell and others.

He has released 9 studio Albums in his career.

A 1988 Album of his has one of the All-Time great Album titles…..”Aliens Ate My Buick“.

He continues to record new material and tour the globe.

He has started an electronic ringtone company, Retro Ringtones, and has developed 100’s of electronic ringtones for use on cell phones.

If your ringtone is an electronic version of a popular retro-hit, chances are good that Dolby developed the ringtone.

He is married to American Actress Kathleen Beller and they have 3 children together.

Jersey Shore

Denise & I just finished season one of Jersey Shore, a reality show about Guidos and Guidettes living in & around the Jersey Shore. It’s like The Real World but based on the subculture of Guido, which has become more & more popular over the past couple of years.

We’ve always had a love for Guidos, just because they look so silly sometimes. Guidos are over-tanned, muscular ‘juiceheads’, generally Italian, however people from other cultural backgrounds can be Guidos as well. So when we heard about this new show called Jersey Shore & how it was based on Guidos, we were pretty excited to watch it.

As you’d expect from a reality show, it was dramatic & there for entertainment instead of anything else. The kids in the house are all mainly early to mid 20s & are living the Guido lifestyle, which includes drinking & partying all night & working out at the gym, sometimes working in a t-shirt shop & basically doing nothing else. Which definitely makes for interesting television.

It’s become a bit of a phenomenon for many reasons. There has been massive amounts of backlash because of the negative portrayal of Italian-Americans, the multiple physical fights that happen on the show & the huge ratings that Jersey Shore has pulled.

So I definitely recommend that you give it a go. It’s hilarious & much better than most reality shows. Yes.

How does the Jersey Shore feel about "Jersey Shore"?

The “Jersey Shore has certainly caused a lot of controversy.  Love it or hate, there are few people in this country who aren’t aware of it.  Hell, even my out-of-touch mother knows all about Snooki and The Situation.

While I admittedly enjoyed the show, it does bring light to the problem of trashy out of staters coming to the Jersey Shore and making the lives of us locals completely miserable.  One of the readers of this blog (by the way, you can sign up at the right to get an e-mail whenever i write a new post!) left a very poignant and well written comment about those trashy guidos and guidettes.  Rather than leaving it buried in the Armpit of America archives, I wanted to post it up front and center so everyone can see it.

Whoever you are, thanks for speaking what all of us true Jerseyans are thinking!

To Armpitofamerica,

I want to set the record straight about the Jersey Shore. Since these MTV people invaded our shores, it has put such a bad light on New Jersey. I am so very sad, as I was born and raised at the Jersey Shore. I can honestly tell you that parts, (that the guidos and tourists know nothing about) are absolutely beautiful and pristeen. There are bays, rivers, streams, camping, canoeing, tubing, and clean beaches which we and our children have beautiful memories from. I will not reveal where these places are as so those “types” won’t trash it like Seaside, or what us locals refer to it as “Sleazside”.

We let our teens work on the boardwalk and saw so much human garbage there, we pulled them out, never letting them work there again. The things we’ve seen, made the quidos and quidettes look like choir singers. Trust me, 90% of the people that spend the summers there are not Jersey Shore residents. First there is no room to breathe, and 2nd, we cannot afford the crappy $5.00 hot dogs  $10.00 drinks and $15.00 a day parking. Who needs it! They come from North Jersey and out of state looking for a good time and not care what or who they hurt to get it. Yeah, lets pee on this guys lawn, ah throw the beer can anywhere we don’t care! Not to mention the rise in crime. We relish mid September to reclaim our beaches again until another dreaded summer comes. Thanks tourists.

I admit,I would never live in the large cities of New Jersey as I said before most of them are transplants and bring their garbage with them making the Garden State the reputation it has. But if you go to some of the small towns with good hard working people who love to fish and crab and boat, canoe, and tend their famous Jersey tomatoes and corn on their day off, and with our hometown parades with flags flying, you would see just how beautiful small town America can be. No it’s not corny, it’s true. And I’m proud of that.

Who are you Gaga??

Yesterday I came to a startling realization: Lady Gaga was not always an alien princess, nor a futuristic queen, nor that enchanting product that just might materialize if you mixed some Lisa Frank trapper keepers with a pair of Alexander McQueen platforms in a giant vat of glitter. Once, she was a mere mortal– an everyday brunette. With acrylic nails. Who just so happened to stumble onto the set of MTV’s Boiling Points circa 2005.

No wacko clothes. No husky philosophical banter. Gag me, Gaga.

Is There Anything a Person Won't Do For Money ?

Yesterday I was killing some time before I went in to work at Windward Passage and ran across a show on MTV called Silent Library that tests the premise, is there a limit to what a person won’t do for cold hard cash ? I have to admit MTV has changed from the old days when it began back in 1981 with the specific intent of playing music videos 24/7 guided by on air hosts known as VJ’s.

I’m sure some people might find this type of show a waste of time I actually kind of found it sort of entertaining. The episode that I watched had six girlfriends who were playing the game and some were selected to perform insane tasks.

One task was similiar to the one in the trailer above where the girl had to find and eat thirteen cheetos that were hidden on a sweaty fat man’s body in a specified amount of time. The girl went about her business of finding the cheetos (one was in the man’s arm pit and one in his belly button) and tried to gulp them down while gagging as her girlfriends looked on and laughed.

I think this show probably proves that there isn’t anything that some people won’t do for the almighty dollar !

MTV drops Music Television

This morning my alarm woke me up to some very disappointing news. MTV was no longer Music Television. They have decided to drop the “music television” from their logo, which used to appear at the very bottom. I think we all thought that would happen sooner or later, but I at least thought that MTV would have tried – given some attempt at least.

Instead they pumped out the Jersey Shore and Teen Mom. While reality television is entertaining, what happened to the intended purpose of MTV. Music. Music videos. Will they still have the MTV Video Music Awards? I mean how are we supposed to know what music videos are out and what nominees we want to win if we can’t view them like we used to on their channel.

Personally, I think this is the wrong direction for MTV to be going in right now especially at a time when music needs their fans and their viewers the most. MTV is giving up. They are onforming and I would hate to see it turn into this trashy channel.

How does it feel to sell out now?

T'Pau

T’Pau is a British Pop Group, led by singer Carol Decker, that hit One-Hit Wonder status with the 1987 single “Heart and Soul“, a song that reached #4 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.

Though they had later success in England, “Heart and Soul” would be their only hit in the United States.

Eight of their singles charted in the Top-40 of the British Charts.

The band was named after “T’Pau” a Vulcan Goddess in the Star Trek Universe.

The group initially broke up in 1991 but reemerged in 1998 when lead singer Carol Decker started the group back up with new backing members.

The group released four studio albums between 1987 and 1998.

The group continues to perform live around the United Kingdom.

I take pictures of pretty drunk things

A couple of weeks ago, my little Sony point and shoot camera met an unfortunate fate when it was accidentally dropped by a friend of mine lens first on hardwood floor.  Let me tell you what happens to a camera when this situation occurs – it BREAKS!  Ever since then my camera has been unable to turn on, so I instantly began my search for a replacement.  After lots of research and even more debating, I decided to get the Canon SD780 IS.  I have never actually owned a digital Canon camera before and as someone who is passionate about photography I decided I needed to give them a shot.

Although I have only had this camera since last night, I can safely say I am already in love.  With the limited battery charge it came with, TJ and I took funny photos in our living room and explored the settings such as enhanced blues and night scenes.  I will have to post some photos so I can show you the quality (currently the battery is charging).  I am definitely impressed!  It doesn’t have a strong zoom, which I am okay with.  I mostly wanted this camera so I could take it with me everywhere.  I always need to have a camera with me. You never know when you will see something worthy of keeping forever.

In other news, MTV has finally gotten with the times and dropped the “music television” from their logo.  A smart move on their part.  It’s time they stopped living in denial.

Also in denial, me.  I haven’t felt like much of a “writer” these days.  I’m trying to get through everything, but I don’t think this whole winter this is going over well.  I need a retreat to sunnier times.  Things feel so hopeless when it’s grey and overcast outside.  Perhaps I should stop listening to sad folk music when I have things to do!  Is it May yet?  Vegas and California, I await you.

The Buried Life: "What do you want to do before you die?"

“If you had one day to live, what would you do?  Would you climb a mountain?  Would you kiss the girl of your dreams?  Would you tell someone how you really feel?  Now, if you had a lifetime to live, would you lose that drive?  Or would your list just keep getting longer?  Three years ago we broke away from the regular track.  We were fed up of racing through life without direction.  So we made a list of everything we wanted most in life and decided to go after it.  We left with a promise, that for everything we accomplished on our list, we’d have a stranger do something on theirs.  What we learned is that everyone has a remarkable story to tell, and to live.”

-Ben from The Buried Life on MTV

MTV’s finally got a good show that does good things for people.  These four guys push themselves to the limit.  True, watching four guys attempt to sneak into a party at the Playboy Mansion (extremely HIGH security) and sneak into a movie premiere to talk to Megan Fox doesn’t seem very. . . inspirational, except to the average teenage boy.  What is inspirational is that they go above and beyond to find ways to do the seemingly impossible.  They also really do help people in the process.  They’ve raised money to buy a computer for school children and helped a girl overcome her fear of heights.  I don’t think their goals in the past few episodes were to party with Playboy bunnies or make a move on Megan Fox (which was pretty entertaining to watch).  I think these guys do it just to see if they can.  They want to prove that anything is possible for anyone.  Please MTV, keep this show!

56 : Top 10 Reasons to Watch Jersey Shore

56/365
2/5/2010

Character:
Surgeon General

Setting:
Infinite Nowhere

- – - – -

Surgeon General stand in front of the audience.

Surgeon:            Hello.  It has come to our attention that you are about to watch a scene related to and regarding the MTV Original Television Series, Jersey Shore.  As your United States Surgeon General it is my duty to inform you that consumption of anything impersonating, pertaining to, or concerning the television series Jersey Shore is harmful to your health.

Although coming into direct contact with the show is not advised, ingestion of anything Jersey Shore-related may damage one’s critical-thinking abilities, cause complications with pregnancy, and has been strongly linked to lung cancer, impotency, heart disease, and degeneration of cerebral matter.  Continued exposure to Jersey Shore may only accelerate these symptoms.

One thing, though, that has been positively attributed to the show in particular cases is a sense of self-worth and respect; but this is, of course, user dependent.  While these results are possible, it is still suggested that you refrain from anything having to do with Jersey Shore and to seek other outlets for finding these emotional effects.

As Surgeon General, it is not my job to tell you what to and to not do.  As your United States Surgeon General, it is my job to inform you and help you make the best decisions possible for yourself and those around you.  As a concerned citizen though I must say that if more attention is given to television series such as this and others, I understand why the terrorists want us dead.  Because if even one American is willing to devote just a half hour to Jersey Shore once a week capitalism truly has one.

If you have more questions regarding your health and MTV’s Jersey Shore, you can find information elaborating upon what we’ve talked about here at w-w-w-(dot)-truth-about-the-shore-(dot)-gov.

With that said, thank you for your time and for listening.  Make sure to pass this information on to friends and loved ones who are unaware; it may just save their life.

Thank you, again and have a wonderful night.  May God bless America.

Surgeon General bows and walks off.

The MTV Video Awards 09 an occult ritual?

I daily explore many websites of the internet, finding what’s new and increasing my knowledge about certain things. While doing this I came across a very interesting blog entry about the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

The blogger writes about how the award show was actually a large occult ritual. The blogger mentions initiations, a prayer, a blood sacrifice and an acceptance into the order.

The Initiation:

We all remember when Taylor Swift won the “best female video” and Kanye West pulled his “I’mma let you finish” stunt, apparently it was staged. She was humiliated in front of her peers to test her character, strength and worth. The plan was to ruin her 1st award ever and tell her she didn’t deserve it.

Taylor Swift went on to win many awards at this year’s Grammy’s including the coveted album of the year

The Prayer:

This happened when Jack Black came out on stage and the 1st thing he says is “Who wants to pray to the devil with me?” The audience proceed to put one horns and pray to the “dark lord Satan”. At the end he says “I ask you to grant this year’s nominees with continued success in the music industry”

The Blood Sacrifice:

This part happened when Lady Gaga performance. The way the performance was done and her wearing all red right after the performance suggested that she was a walking, talking blood sacrifice.

Pink’s Masonic Initiation:

Pink’s performance with her being blindfolded had direct correlation to an initiation of a new member into a Masonic order. The initiate is blindfolded, attached to a cord with left breast exposed and left leg exposed just like the way pink was dressed.

Pink’s performance is a another reference to occult orders.

Acceptance into the Order:

After Taylor Swift was totally humiliated by Kanye West, Beyonce, the “Queen of the ceremony” called her up on stage to have her moment. This was her acceptance in the Order.
To read more about this follow the link:

http://positivelightpromotions.wordpress.com/2009/09/30/did-the-vmas-act-out-an-occult-mega-ritual/

When I read this post, the amount of detail in it astounded me. Could be truth to this? Are there secret societies around the world that a gaining absolute power over all of us. If so, please call me, I want to fill in an application.

Oh, the jersey shore...

Ahahahaha, honestly what more is there to say? Don’t even lie you know as well as I do, you loved the jersey shore! I sure as hell did. I mean it must sound terrible to say that, but don’t judge me because i find complete tool bags getting wasted at the jersey shore all summer hilarious. I am so sad about the fact that i have to wait another 8 months or so for the next season.

But on real life terms now, is the jersey shore a good influence on pop culture? I would have to say no, but all it really promotes is drinking a partying. That is really all that show consisted of, of course all the drama comes with that life style which makes it interesting to watch. But there some little dude out there who was the creator and that boy or goy (im not sexest here :p) made bankkkk!

The creator obviously knows what the general viewers of mtv want to watch, a complete party lifestyle. The producers portray it as real life and people want to believe that, that could actually be their real life for a summer. I know I could not handle that much alcohol or drama. Call me a light-weight or whatever you may, but id rather sit back and watch other douchers make asses of themselves!

TAZ - back to business..

I (like many others) remember Taz from Dizzee Rascal’s Just A Rascal as well as his own release, Cowboy Film:

With the above record, Taz reached out to Canada’s own Kardinal Offishal, this was a first for UK music, especially within the urban genres, it was clearly a step in the right direction and something that deserves more praise than he is actually credited for, there was also a very entertaining remix featuring an early verse from Sway.

Taz has been busy behind the scenes, but has recently surfaced a long with a wave of new music and much more.

As part of DMT:

as well as his collaborations with Carl Cani:

A member of the BASCA (British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors), Taz has signed a distribution deal with Las Vegas based, ‘On Blast Entertainment’ and is now preparing for a Taz and Carni London to Las Vegas Uni Tour (with support from NUS, Storm & PRS), Starting 25th Feb – 7th April.

Carl Cani’s debut single On 2 Me was a success making it onto the Mtv Top 10, so now pushing for Carl Cani’s second single, ‘Boasy Pose’ out in April, hoping it can surpass the first single’s acheivements.

Look out for more from Taz and DMT, as well as a video coming soon for the club banger ‘Take Your Time’.

Mmmm, smells like greasy.

If you’ve ever wanted to smell like fish, tanning oil and whatever the chick left behind last night, WITHOUT actually putting your immune system at RISK, it’s your LUCKY day bi*ches.

Behold,”The Sitch.”

I figured this guy as “Mom where the fu*k did you put my Axe?” kinda guy, but I guess it was turning the bi*ches away instead of reeling them in.

There’s no details as of yet, but if you’re a DUDE lookin to pick up some chick who’ll rub up on your crystallized shirt so hard enough to bedazzle her iPhone with the ones that popped off, then it’s LEGIT.

I have a feeling if I ever caught a whiff of this sh*t, I’d have an overwhelming urge for Dominos.
